Living in isolation; a small Italian community live miles up high in the mountains away from the busy and polluted lives of others down below.
I remember the fresh air was cold in the sun and literally everyone knew each other.
The place definitely held an absurdly relaxing atmosphere.

I was tutor to a class of 9-11 year old Italian children in August 2009. With little understanding of each others language, an illustrative form of communication was devised in order to understand one another. The children created and performed a play in English for their parents at the end of the week.

This series involves the participation of a number of students from Central Saint Martins, each asked to pose in a business suit. The photographs were exhibited at the Truman Brewery in Brick Lane as part of Central Saint Martins second year show.

The way I saw it was that all the students exhibiting generally were aiming to appeal to potential employers and that these photographs were designed to highlight this communication between employer and student in a more forward & comical fashion.

This series is documentation of a modern day relationship with technology. I was aiming to capture an emptiness in these portraits, in contrast to the what a photographic portrait is, in order to express a gradual and subtle merge between humanity and technology.

This series was inspired by poverty in the UK and how it can effect people growing up under the consequences of it. The portraits attempt to combine both environment and figure to express the idea and cause of a deficiency in all things I believe poverty can lead to; a lack of education, health and behaviour.

The structured composition in each photograph brings a lack of realism and focus on the frame of the photograph to impose a feeling of isolation, enclosure and inability to escape.

The name of each photograph is named after its surroundings to disguise the idea that the portraits are about the figure. In essence, the irony of this expresses the idea that children are ignored by society.

Re-designing the book

The dust jacket was printed on a translucent paper over a plain black cover with no text. Text on the front and back flap of the dust jacket is reversed in order to appear enigmatic but can be read from the other side.

In short, a contemporary twist on the traditional Chinese myth of Monkey Journey to the West. This film has was exhibited at Futuremap '09 and D&AD new blood exhibitions.

"Future Map hails the work of 24 artists graduating from across the University of the Arts. The four panel members, selected from powerful echelons of the art world, sift through work from 200 courses, supposedly distilling the crème de la crème of emerging young talent. Staged in the 20 Hoxton Square Projects, works are paraded in front of an influential audience, eager to spot or snap up the next big thing.

Pigsy in Space is not only conspicuous for it's technically accomplished puppetry but also seems to be a clever comment on the imbalance between expectation, consumption and equivalent reality."
